US President Joe Biden stated today that it is possible to impose sanctions on Russian President Vladimir Putin himself, if Russia invades Ukraine.

Asked by the media if such a thing is possible in the event of a Russian attack on Ukraine, Biden answered positively, reports Reuters.

Biden also said that in the near future he may transfer some of the 8.500 US soldiers who had been put on standby, but he promised that US troops would not be deployed to Ukraine.

The United States generally refrains from imposing sanctions on foreign leaders, and former President Donald Trump imposed sanctions on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in 2017 and Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in 2019, according to Reuters.
