The Director of the Kosovo Center for the Rehabilitation of Torture Survivors (KRRT), Feride Rushiti, stated that sexual violence during the war did not have space and social discourse from parliamentarians. She mentioned the parliamentary sessions of 2014, where, as she indicated, the language of some deputies regarding this category was painful.

Nominated for the Nobel Prize, the director of the KRCT, Feride Rushiti, spoke in a public discussion about the path that led her to this nomination by a Swedish MP.

"There was no space or social discourse for sexual violence. We remember when we started working with parliamentarians, we couldn't speak the way we speak today. The language, the discourse was painful. Verifications through the gynecologist, then they discussed the number...for a moment we turned off the TV," she said.

The Director of the Kosovo Center for the Rehabilitation of Torture Survivors (KRRT), Feride Rushiti, confessed that she encountered the first cases of sexually abused women and men in March 1998 in Kukës.

"For the first time, I met with girls, women and men who had experienced the horrors of war. At one point I was a doctor, in logistics, referring cases for help, and all these sad stories I heard strengthened me to start and open an organization when I came to Kosovo where these women and men would have a safe environment where they could speak freely about their experiences," she confessed.

Vasfija Grasniqi's courage to publicly confess to sexual rape, Rushiti said, has had an effect on the entire population in breaking down prejudices and stigma.
