Italy-Albania agreement resumes, 49 migrants expected to arrive tomorrow

Following operations to assess the conditions for illegal immigrants, 49 people were rescued at sea and boarded the ship Cassiopea to be transferred to centers in Albania, where procedures for reception, detention and assessment of individual cases will begin.

The transfer of migrants to centers across the Adriatic for faster repatriation, which Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has said several times that she does not want to give up, has been entrusted to the Navy patrol ship "Cassiopea", which already monitors the sea off Lampedusa.
It is expected to arrive tomorrow on the Albanian coast and, according to Italian media, will have 49 migrants on board, reports Tch.

In previous cases, during the October-November period, it was the ship "Libra" that brought the migrants, but the 20 asylum seekers sent to the Gjadri centers were released by decisions of judges of the Rome Court who rejected detentions.
This time the government hopes for a better outcome. Now those who will decide will no longer be the magistrates of the immigration section, but the judges of the Court of Appeal, as provided for in the new law requested by the executive and which entered into force on January 11.
