Dozens of Serbian students and citizens participated on Wednesday in the "15 minutes of silence" rally in front of the "Prince Lazarus" monument in northern Mitrovica, in memory of the 15 victims who died after the roof collapsed at the Novi Sad railway station in November last year.
The students held banners with inscriptions such as "Students from Belgrade with colleagues from Mitrovica", "Mother with students", "Who can learn while their conscience torments them" and similar.
Mirjana Perović, a student from the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade, justified the small participation of students in this rally by saying that they are extremely scared.
"The colleagues from here are very scared. Half of them are afraid of how they will get jobs tomorrow, if they come here, will their parents and friends manage to keep the salaries they receive, they are simply scared and I understand why they did not participate and did not come," she said.
After her speech, one of the passing citizens hurled insults at the student from Belgrade, accusing her of "taking sides with the opposition, which is being paid only to destroy the state of Serbia.""Not for the opposition which wants to destroy the state, which is paid and which does not wish the best for you or us," he said.
This then caused reactions from other citizens who were participating in the rally, where there were also verbal clashes between them.
Otherwise, this gathering, which was organized by students of the so-called University of Pristina, headquartered in north Mitrovica, passed without any major incidents, while members of the police and KFOR closely observed the event./KosovaPress
