The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) sent the law on public officials to the Constitutional Court today.
The news was announced by the head of the PDK Parliamentary Group, Abelard Tahiri, through a post on Facebook.
"As we warned months ago, today we sent to the Constitutional Court the law that the parliamentary majority approved last week and which amends and supplements the current Law on Public Officials. Just as the latter, when we sent it to the court two years ago, so now we have sent its amendment to prevent the politicization and partisanship of the public administration and to prevent the degradation of the system of meritocracy, career and independence of the administration, whose task is to serve all citizens with diligence and professionalism without distinction, and not to be turned into a political instrument of power", he wrote.
Tahiri said that public officials "are a long-term investment of the state and our partners, and we will not allow them to succumb to the pressures of political agendas."
"The judgment of the Constitutional Court of the summer of 2023 fully confirmed our claims, while the Assembly, in this case, was obliged to address all violations within six months. Today, about a year and a half later, not only did they fail to prepare the new law in time, but even worse, they repeated some of the violations in the same way. Therefore, the contestation of this law in the Constitutional Court is not a coincidence and presents, at the same time, a proof of our consistent commitment to the protection of constitutional values and order", he concluded.
Otherwise, the law on public officials was also sent to the Constitutional Court by the other opposition party, the Democratic League of Kosovo.
