The declaration of independence on February 17, 2008, is considered one of the most important dates in Kosovo's history to date. After this date, citizens have chosen to reflect the spirit of this historical moment through their names. According to the Kosovo Agency of Statistics, 15 girls in our country are named Pavarësia, while 24 boys in Kosovo are named Pavarësim.
According to the Kosovo Agency of Statistics, the regions of Pristina and Ferizaj are the ones where the name “Pavarësia” has gained the most popularity, while “Pavarësim” is more present in the regions of Prizren and Ferizaj. This phenomenon shows that citizens, in a symbolic way, link their identity with this important period for the country, showing pride and respect for Kosovo’s gained independence.
On February 17, the Kosovo Assembly convened in an extraordinary session and at 15:45 p.m. it declared Kosovo an independent and sovereign state. The declaration of independence was read by then-Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi.
