President Vjosa Osmani, during her visit to Washington, met with the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs at the State Department, Louis Bono, with whom she discussed strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries in line with the objectives of the Trump administration, and advancing cooperation in defense and the economy.
During the meeting, Osmani reaffirmed Kosovo's commitment to closely cooperating with the United States, deepening bilateral relations.
She stressed the importance of strengthening regional security and the need for a strong preventive stance in the face of ongoing threats from Russia, Serbia and other malicious actors.
In this context, Osmani underlined the necessity of close cooperation to maintain stability and peace in the region.
Among other things, Osmani spoke about the importance of Kosovo's integration into NATO, which, in addition to strengthening security in Kosovo and the region, is ultimately also in harmony with American strategic objectives for global peace and security.She confirmed that Kosovo has already increased its defense budget to 2% of gross domestic product and is in the process of increasing this budget to meet the strategic objective of NATO membership.
Osmani confirmed Kosovo's readiness for active engagement towards the realization of the strategic dialogue, which was offered to Kosovo at the beginning of this year, to address common challenges and priorities in various fields.
Recall, Louis Bono has been appointed by President Donald Trump's administration as acting assistant secretary of state on January 20, 2025.
