Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani delivered her speech to thousands of participants in the Morning Prayers, organized by the US Congress in Washington.
Osmani emphasized that there will always be forces to turn the world backwards, seeing how division, fear, and hatred can be used to divide people.
"They are real threats to freedom and they challenge friendly people and countries like Kosovo and the US and many others that have worked hard to build," she said.
Osmani said that the US led the way, while the democratic world followed in support of Kosovo's freedom.
She added that Kosovo as a state chooses freedom and humanism, as well as faith, quoting former President Ibrahim Rugova: "We have believed in God and this faith has kept us alive."Osmani said that the former president's words reflect not only a personal belief, but a national truth that when we faced oppression, our faith in God, in freedom and justice, and in our cause carried us forward.
This year, the honorary co-chairs of the Prayer Breakfast are Democratic Senator Maggie Hassan and Republican Senator Roger Marshall.
In 2023, the National Prayer Breakfast was divided into two events, one at the Capitol, attended mainly by lawmakers and government officials, and a larger private event that gathered thousands of people at a hotel.
The split came after lawmakers sought to distance themselves from the religious group that has organized the largest activity within the framework of the Prayer Breakfast for decades, due to questions about how it was organized and how it was being financed.
In 2023 and 2024, Democratic President Joe Biden spoke at the event held at the Capitol and his comments were broadcast live at the other event as well.
