Kosovo Security Force soldiers, together with members of the Kosovo Police, have paraded in the squares of Pristina on the occasion of the 17th anniversary of Kosovo's Independence.

Many citizens had gathered to watch the parade of Kosovo soldiers and police officers up close.

And the Supreme Commander, Vjosa Osmani, before their parade began, said that Kosovo is here today because it fought and sacrificed.

"We are here because we stood and resisted, we are here today because we fought because we sacrificed, because we never bowed down to violence, injustice and atrocities. We are here today because we managed to rise again, build and strengthen our state. Thanks to the army and police who are parading in front of the citizens of Kosovo today, we managed to protect every inch of our state. On this great day in our history, on this 17th anniversary of the independence of the Republic, we stand proudly before our beloved flag under the free sky of our homeland.", she said.

The country's President, Vjosa Osmani, said that at the foundations of Kosovo lies a long journey begun with vision by President Ibrahim Rugova.

She also honored and remembered the fighters of the Kosovo Liberation Army and the legendary commander, Adem Jashari.

The Supreme Commander of the Kosovo Security Force stated that the KSF and the Kosovo Police are ready to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Kosovo at all times.

President Osmani also expressed gratitude for the friends of Kosovo and their assistance in the creation of the state of Kosovo.

She emphasized that despite differences and challenges, they will continue to be united for the homeland.

17 years ago, in a session of the Kosovo Assembly, the declaration of Kosovo's independence was made.

The historic session was attended by 109 MPs, out of 120, who also signed the Declaration of Independence of Kosovo.

Serbian MPs were not present at this session.

The declaration of Kosovo's independence was made by the then Prime Minister, Hashim Thaçi.
