President Vjosa Osmani met today with the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, within the framework of the Security Conference in Munich, Germany.
Osmani said that the European Union should remove the sanctions imposed on Kosovo as they are unjust.
"Our people have demonstrated unwavering commitment to European values and have made significant steps on the path towards integration. It is time for the EU to recognize and appreciate this progress, including by removing unjust measures and paving the way for Kosovo towards candidate status," she wrote on Facebook.
The EU imposed punitive measures against Kosovo on June 3, 2023 due to tensions in the north. Official Brussels has suspended the work of the Stabilization and Association Agreement bodies.Kosovo will also not be invited to high-level events and bilateral visits will be suspended, except for those focused on addressing the crisis in northern Kosovo within the framework of the dialogue. The EU has also suspended the programming of IPA 2024 funds.
The EU has stressed that these measures are temporary and depend on developments on the ground and decisions on de-escalation. Prime Minister Albin Kurti has stressed that “there can be no compromises with the constitutionality of the country,” referring to the request for the establishment of an association of Serb-majority municipalities.
