The prices of derivatives in our country have increased these days by more than five cents per liter. The price for a liter of diesel today has cost up to 1 euro and 39 cents, while a liter of gasoline is sold for up to 1 euro and 31 cents in the Kosovo market.
The prices of derivatives rise every year during the holidays when compatriots come to Kosovo, as well as during the harvest-threshing season for agricultural mechanization.
According to the Consumers' Association, the price of oil has risen at the time of the compatriots' arrival and in the harvest-threshing campaign. Although, the oilmen deny that this increase in prices happened to expatriates and farmers.
The chairman of the association of oil workers of Kosovo, Fadil Berjani, told KosovaPress that the price for a liter of diesel today is from 1.28 euro cents to 1.38 euro cents, while that for gasoline is 1 euro and 31 cents.
Mayor Berjani claims that fuel prices are cheaper in Kosovo than in the region, except for North Macedonia.
The President of the "Consumatori" Association, Selatin Kaçaniku, points out to KosovaPress that there is a possibility that due to the arrival of compatriots on vacation in their homeland, and the start of the harvest-threshing campaign, derivatives from oil companies will become more expensive.
"Both of these, compatriots and farmers, oil workers use and give 'yrysh' for the price of oil and gasoline. Therefore, these prices should definitely be reduced, because other citizens also suffer. Thus, consumers are the most trampled, even though the citizen-consumer is the tax payer and the budget filler from which the government officials are paid", he emphasized.
The president of the Association of Oil Workers, Fadil Berjani, has denied that there is an increase in the prices of derivatives as a result of the arrival of compatriots.
"No, there is no increase in prices that the diaspora is coming. The price is determined by the oil and gas production organization OPEC. As for the harvests, I believe that our farmers have subsidies from the Government", said Berjani in an answer to KosovaPress.
On the other hand, oil prices on the international stock market have fallen on Tuesday after ongoing diplomatic efforts to reach a cease-fire agreement in Gaza and uncertainty over the timing of the US Federal Reserve's (Fed) interest rate cut.
