Members of the Special Intervention Unit (SUI) and police officers from other sectors and their union protested in front of the Government of Kosovo, demanding that their demands be met for dangerousness allowances, insufficient salaries, inappropriate clothing and care for the well-being of police family members.
They stood in front of the Government building, where they presented other demands which they expect to be fulfilled in a time frame as soon as possible.
The President of the Kosovo Police Union, Imer Zeqiri, while listing over 14 unfulfilled requests of the Kosovo Police, said that this time these requests should be treated with priority.
Also, Zeqiri emphasized that the dangerousness of the Kosovo Police should be up to 50% and that a commission should be formed to categorize the extra dangerousness.
The head of the union, Zeqiri, added that they are ready to discuss with the government to fulfill these demands.
Asked about the injuries of members of the Kosovo Police, Zeqiri said that there are over 4700 cases of injuries during the performance of duty and some of them do not even have health insurance.
Also, he added that in 2023 alone, there are 86 members of the Kosovo Police who have resigned.
Meanwhile, NJSI representatives met with Kurti in mid-November, but did not reach an agreement because the head of the executive refused to withdraw from his position in relation to their demands.
According to the Government's proposal, the allowances for the NJSI are about 150 euros, while in the request, the police officers said that it should be set at a value of 50 percent of the basic salary and there should be allowances for specific working conditions.
