One person lost his life and four passengers were injured as a result of the crash of a sports plane south of Kerestinac, announced today the Directorate of Civil Protection of Croatia.
Five passengers were registered on the flight and work is currently being done to organize the transport of injured persons, the directorate at X.
Members of the Zagreb State Civil Protection Intervention Unit, police, emergency medical aid, HGSS Samobor and Zagreb, as well as firefighters were dispatched to the scene.
One of the injured is Veselka Klobučariq-Pirc, president of the Parachuting Club of Croatia and runner-up of Europe in target throwing, Croatian media reports.
"They got up and had to jump from 1.500 meters because they were training for the next national championship," said her husband.
Everything happened in the area of the airport in Jezhdovac, known as Lučko airport. It is a Cessna 182 parachute plane.
The injured persons have been treated and their lives are not in danger, said Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic.
"All persons are Croatian citizens," Plenkovic said. He rejected earlier reports that they were Hungarians.
The witnesses who helped the accident victims also spoke about the case.
"There were five on the plane, four survived. It's a forest, it's hard to see from the air, only one tree is broken. We just helped, like our colleagues we went to help in the search", said the witness Alen Cepiq.
"It was a big hit, we all ran into the woods looking. It looked terrible, blood and ugly people to see. I'm glad I could help. The Emergency Department helped the people they could, the investigation is pending ", said the other witness Nikola Horvatincik.
