In honor of February 17, Kosovo's Independence Day, the Municipality of Obiliq has organized several activities.
Initially, homages were paid at the Memorial Plaque of the Nation's Martyrs in Obiliq, while a solemn session was also organized in honor of this day.
The Mayor of Obiliq, Xhafer Gashi, was present at the homage. While the Deputy Mayor Ibush Mjekiqi, members of the Municipal Assembly and representatives from the Islamic Community were present at the solemn session. This meeting began with a minute of silence for the fallen of the last war in Kosovo.
Deputy Speaker Ibush Mjekiqi said during this session that the Jashari family is a symbol of heroism for freedom.
"We are gathered here to mark the 17th anniversary of the declaration of independence. A sacred moment for all of us. On this day we remember the difficult journey of the people that we have experienced for centuries. In this journey, the Jashari family is a symbol of heroism for our freedom, their blood became the foundation of independence. Today we are committed to building a strong Kosovo," he said.After the solemn session, the Municipal Assembly will meet for a central event at the "Xhavit Haziri" House of Culture.
