The squares in southern Mitrovica were filled on Monday with citizens enjoying the festive atmosphere for Kosovo's independence.
Kumrije Begu, a citizen of Mitrovica, said that she feels good today, but not well enough, due to the general security situation in the north.
According to her, the Albanians of that part are still very proud.
"I feel good, but not that good, considering the state of our city Mitrovica. I lived for thirty years in the north of the city and I know very well how this city breathes. We have been worse. Now we are better, but not as much as we should be... We are still with oil on our lips," said Begu.
Erblin Macula, another Mitrovica resident, said he feels good today, because for him today is a special day. He emphasized that the institutions have worked for the city of Mitrovica like never before, especially in extending sovereignty to the north. Although he said there is room for even more work.Otherwise, in honor of Independence Day, the Municipality of South Mitrovica organized homage at the martyrs' cemetery in Shipol, then homage at the Memorial Complex in Prekaz, as well as an artistic program at the 'Adem Jashari' Square in Mitrovica, where well-known names in the Kosovar entertainment scene performed.
