Former President Fatmir Sejdiu, former President Atifete Jahjaga, Bekim Jashari from the Jashari Family, ambassadors accredited in Pristina, and government representatives participated in the main ceremony of the seventeenth anniversary of Kosovo's independence, where the Kosovo Security Force and Kosovo Police paraded.
In addition to the absence of personalities from the international community, at the celebration of the 17th anniversary of Kosovo's independence, no representatives of North Macedonia, not even representatives of the opposition from there, were seen.
The President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, was present at this anniversary, but not the Prime Minister of this country, Edi Rama. The Kosovo Police announced today that only the President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, was on a two-day visit in honor of the 17th anniversary of Kosovo's independence. The Police announced today that they will take care of providing security and maintaining public order and peace during the movement of the escort and the stay of the state delegation in Kosovo.
Unlike other years, in the activities of the institutions to mark Independence Day, this year, Adem and Hamëz Jashari's brother, Rifat Jashari, was not seen. However, Bekim Jashari from the Jashari family was present at today's ceremony. Although representatives from KFOR were not seen as guests at this ceremony either.
Over the years, there have been important guests at the celebration of Kosovo's independence, such as presidents and prime ministers, from the region and the world.In 2019, the independence ceremony, hosted by President Hashim Thaçi, was attended by former Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, former OSCE Ambassador William Walker, and US Ambassador Philip Kosnett. Also participating in the ceremony were Rifat Jashari, a member of the Jashari family, who was a member of the Kosovo Security Force and Kosovo Police at the time.
The tenth anniversary of the independence celebration in 2018 was attended by the Speaker of the Parliament of North Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi, the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, the President of this country, Ilir Meta, the former OSCE Ambassador, William Walker, and the former President of Croatia, Stipe Mesic.
