Now that it is expected to enter the third, and last, phase of the transition process, the Kosovo Security Force intends to do so with aerial equipment. Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci says that they are "generating options for the supply of helicopters" and according to him, in the coming days they will have "a clear information on where the orientation for helicopters is". In an interview for KosovaPress, Maqedonci also talks about the security situation and the danger from Serbian terrorist groups.
The process of transformation of the Force, which has entered the seventh year, is developing according to plans, says the Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci.
"We are generating options for the supply of helicopters and I believe that in the coming days we will have clearer information about where our orientation is for helicopters and citizens will normally be informed about our orientation and about our approach in relation to helicopters and always our aim is to have at least a part of these assets in KSF before the end of the third transition phase, before 2028". he says.
During this process, Kosovo has purchased drones and various military vehicles. The state has focused on investments for modern weapons systems, among them the purchase of anti-tanks "Javelin".
With the completion of the transformation, the KSF is expected to have the responsibility of preserving the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.
Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci says that Serbia continues to pose a threat with the establishment of 48 Serbian army bases along the border line with Kosovo.
In Raskë, Niš and Vranjë, he says, other bases have been established which are not far from the territory of Kosovo. He considers that the risk of attacks is possible, considering that the terrorists of the attack in Banjska and in the Ibër-Lepenci channel have not yet been punished.
Serbian terrorists attacked the Kosovo Police in September 2023 and killed Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku, in Banjska i Zveçani. A year later, on the evening of November 29, a large explosion damaged the water channel of Ibër-Lepenc in Varaga of Zubin Potok.
Kosovo authorities said the attack was terrorist and carried out by criminal gangs supported by official Belgrade.
In the interview for KosovaPress, Maqedonci declares that the security institutions are capable and prepared to face any threat that tends to undermine the country's sovereignty.
Days ago, Prime Minister Albin Kurti warned of possible attacks before and after the New Year.
The Serbian army continues to be positioned along the border line with Kosovo, says the Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci.
Kosovo's membership in NATO was highlighted as an important issue by the Kosovo authorities, especially after the terrorist attacks in the north.
This issue is one of the main objectives of local institutions, he says Maqedonci, who adds that the Kosovo Security Force is being built according to NATO standards.
At the end of last year, Kosovo has signed an agreement with the Turkish manufacturer of the defense industry for the establishment of the ammunition factory in Kosovo.
Minister Eyup Maqedonci says that in this way Kosovo will become independent in terms of ammunition.
This factory will have the machines according to NATO standards and as it shows Maqedonci, will be managed by a public enterprise.
The contract also includes the training of staff from the Republic of Turkey.
In September last year, the Government of Kosovo approved the concept for comprehensive protection. This concept aims to integrate citizens into the country's defense system.
The Minister of Defense says that during this year the priority will be the implementation of this concept.
The government of which it is a part Maqedonci, ends his mandate at the beginning of this year, since the general elections will be held on February 9.
During the last year, the second infantry regiment was also validated, according to Maqedoncit, has marked achievements for the development of defense capacities.
During this year, Kosovo will host the "Defender Europe 2025" exercise, where there will be units from the United States of America but also from other partner countries.
