The acting government of Kosovo approved on Wednesday the initiative to conclude a framework agreement for cooperation in the field of defense with the United States of America. Acting Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci said that this agreement aims for both parties to engage in advancing cooperation in the field of defense.
"The purpose of this agreement is for both parties to engage in advancing cooperation in the field of defense, such as defense planning, strategic sustainability and building strategic military capabilities. Such a step of cooperation is undertaken in accordance with the goals of broader Euro-Atlantic integration, security concerns, increased interoperability, always relying on the strong existing partnership in the field of defense and security.", he declared.
Maqedonci said that the agreement addresses the issue of air capacity, building a helicopter fleet.
"This is a capacity that is planned to be built into the Kosovo Security Force," he said.
"We also had important meetings on this issue during the visit we had with the KSF commander in Washington. We were at the factory where the Black Hawk helicopters are produced, where we also discussed detailed issues about these helicopters and the procedural possibilities for their purchase. We have the support of the United States of America for the purchase of these helicopters, just as we have the support for the purchase of many systems that we will have in the KSF, within the framework of the third phase of the transition.", He added.
The government also gave the green light to the general security agreement with Slovenia, for the mutual exchange and protection of classified information.
Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that this agreement is an important step.
"The achievement of the security agreement in the field of protection of classified information between Kosovo and Slovenia is an important step with an impact in several aspects. Strengthening bilateral cooperation, securing classified information, improving institutional capacities and supporting Euro-Atlantic integration.", Said Kurti.
At today's government meeting, three agreements between Kosovo and the United Kingdom were approved.
Acting Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, said that the first agreement is for the transfer of convicted persons.
The second agreement approved is the initiative for an agreement on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters between Kosovo and the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, the third agreement is on extradition, which Haxhiu said is based on Kosovo's commitment to developing a European partnership.
At today's cabinet meeting, among other things, the initiative for concluding an international partnership agreement for the management of the technical assistance grant contract, within the framework of the Kosovo-Albania cross-border cooperation program, was approved.
The government cabinet also approved an initiative to conclude an international partnership agreement for the management of technical assistance grant contracts with Montenegro.
