The Vetëvendosje Movement, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo-NISMA coalition, and the Democratic League of Kosovo have people on their lists of candidates for MPs who have 'trouble' with the law. The Vetëvendosje Movement leads with 14 candidates, followed by AAK-NISMA with 8 candidates and LDK with 1 candidate.
This was stated at a media conference organized by the Kosovo Law Institute (KLI), the FOL Movement and the Initiative for Progress INPO, on which the report: Integrity of candidates, rule of law and good governance: (Parliamentary Elections 2025: Analysis of candidate lists and political programs) was published.
Burbuqe Kastrati from the Fol Movement stated that the Vetëvendosje Movement leads in the number of candidates for MPs who have problems with the law, and there are 16 in total.
She said that AAK-Nisma also has candidates for MPs who have problems with the law, a total of 8, and LDK has only one candidate for MP who has problems with the law.
Gzim Shala from the Kosovo Law Institute stated that the political parties' plans for justice in the February 9 elections present major differences in their approach and seriousness.
He said that all political parties have not referred to the rule of law strategy in their political programs.
Shala says that the Self-Determination Movement has a non-serious approach to the justice system with the promises it has made.
As for the Democratic League of Kosovo, which has also foreseen the investigation of political murders, this report says that there are no measures that will be taken in this direction.
Arbër Kadriu from INPO stated that out of 28 political entities certified for the February 9 elections, only 13 of them have a political program. The Vetëvendosje Movement, LDK, PDK, AAK-NISMA, the Coalition for Families, Fjala, the PDAK-LPB Coalition, and the Family Coalition are some of the political parties with a political program.
The report "Candidate Integrity, Rule of Law and Good Governance" shows that political parties' electoral programs for the 2025 elections address issues such as transparency, good governance, public administration and gender equality, but most of them do not provide details on reforms.
According to this report, most electoral parties do not provide concrete measures to ensure a depoliticized and efficient public administration, while gender equality is mentioned in general terms, but clear measures to address them in practice.
The citizens of Kosovo will head to the ballot boxes on February 9 to elect the next legislature and government.
