"Child's Brain" by Daniel Siegel is the best-selling book of the past year, according to the Dukagjini Bookstore in Pristina.

It is followed by "No meeting is accidental" by Hakan Menguç, "Meditations" by Marcus Aurelius and "White Nights" by Foydor Dostoevsky.

These are the four most requested book titles, among the 50.000 titles in this bookstore.

Zgim Sherifi from Libraria Dukagjini shows some factors that affect the sales of titles.

"We have somewhere around 50.000 titles, and among the most requested titles were "Child's Brain", "No meeting is accidental", "Meditations", "White Nights" and many others, so there were several books for teenagers, there is a variety of titles but these are some that have been sold and requested the most... 02:40 "What makes them unique are more or less the social networks that influence the sale of theirs, such as "White Nights" which is a classic book among its best and TikTok has influenced there if I'm not mistaken that this book is sold much more than other books such as "Child's Brain" is the reason why many people are new parents and want to understand the inside of their child", said the Sheriff.

Sherif indicates that the youth age groups are the ones who dominate the most in buying books, unlike adults.

"The interest in books from many age groups, especially the young age group, is that they buy the most and are most interested. Not only in buying books, but they are also interested in the various activities we have, such as book promotions, events... So the younger age group is more interested in buying books", he said.

Artin Ahmeti, manager of Artini bookstore, shares the same opinion. His library has over 15 thousand titles mostly with historical and psychological content.

For their bookstore, the most requested book was "King of Albania", a book by foreign author Clemet Moore dedicated to Gjergj Kastriot. It also shows that after the death of a writer, the wealth of his writings is more sought after.

"In general, the year 2024 has been a good year for our bookstore. Citizens mostly read novels, but also in our bookstore, it is mainly historical books that are the most sought after. Of them, the most sold was "King of Albania", the new translation by an American author, Clemet Moore. The original edition was from 1850, but for the first time it came in the Albanian language. In addition to being an extraordinary historical novel, it is also an extraordinary translation by Col Mehmet. Now the demand for Ismail Kadare's works has also increased, as usually happens after the death of an author, and the sale of psychological or personal development books continues., he said.

Apart from the historical book, other places are occupied by psychological books and novels. Colleen Hoover is one of the most sought-after authors in Ahmeti's bookstore. He also mentioned a new translation by the author Stefan Zëig.

"Other publications that I think are worth mentioning is a new translation by Stefan Zëig "Castle against Calvin" or "Conscience against violence" and this is also for the first time in Albanian. It is a book that has not been translated, it has now been translated by Bislim Elshan and has had an extraordinary reception from readers. Now Colleen Hoover's books continue, not only "It's over with us" but all her other books, are among the most requested books during 2023 and 2024"Ahmeti said.

Ahmeti shows that digitization also affects the sale of books. "After watching the screened film, readers want to read the published version as well."

Just like Sherif, Ahmeti tells about the use of technology in the world of the book. What they thought was their "enemy" turned out to be better than they expected.

According to publishing houses, citizens continue to be loyal to books by well-known authors.
