The country's current Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, today sent a letter to the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, denouncing the systematic discrimination that Serbia is inflicting on Albanians in the Presheva Valley.

Kurti, in his letter, emphasizes that the Albanians of the Valley face continuous oppression by the Serbian regime, through policies that violate their political, administrative, economic, cultural and identity rights.

"Through a letter addressed to the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, also Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, I have informed and denounced the ongoing oppression of the Serbian regime and official Belgrade against the Albanians of the Presevo Valley. The violation of human rights is of a political, administrative, economic, cultural and identity nature, endangering the security and existence of Albanians in the Presevo Valley. While in Kosovo the Serbian community enjoys rights and freedoms, and a state that is integrating them into social spheres, the Albanians of the Presevo Valley face systematic discrimination, deregistration of addresses and administrative ethnic cleansing every day," says the letter sent to the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas.

Further in this letter, Kurti said that over 10 percent of Albanian citizens have been removed from the voter lists and cannot exercise their fundamental right to vote. The unemployment rate in areas inhabited by Albanians is 30 to 70 percent, many times higher than the national average of 12 percent.

"Over 10 percent of Albanian citizens have been removed from the voter lists and cannot exercise their fundamental right to vote. The unemployment rate in areas inhabited by Albanians is 30 to 70 percent, many times higher than the national average of 12 percent. The regional hospital in Vranje has only two Albanians out of over 1000 employees, and in Medveđa, out of about 2000 municipal employees, only 12 are Albanians," the letter further states.
