Croatia tonight became its 16th government since the declaration of independence in 1991. The Croatian Parliament voted confidence in the third government to be led by Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic from the HDZ.
After a ten-hour debate in support of the HDZ and Domovinski Pokret (Fatherland Movement) (DP) government, 79 of the 141 MPs present voted in favour, one MP abstained and 61 voted against. The parliamentary majority welcomed the expression of confidence in the government.
In the program of the new government from 2024 to 2028, five priorities are distinguished - successful, vital, just, stable and sovereign Croatia.
In the composition of the new government, the only new person from the ranks of HDZ is Tonçi Glavina, who heads the Ministry of Tourism and Sports from the post of state secretary.
The Department of Health continues to be headed by Vili Berosh, the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Construction and Public Assets by Branko Bacic, Defense by Ivan Anushiq, the Ministry of Internal Affairs by Davor Bozhinović, and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs by Gordan Grliq-Radman.
The Ministry of Finance will continue to be headed by Marko Primorac, Radovan Fuchs will remain the Minister of Education, Science and, newly added, Youth, Marin Piletić the Minister of Labour, Pension System, Family and Social Policy and Shime Erliq the Minister of Funds Regional Development and the European Union.
Nina Obulen Korzhinek, Tomo Medved and Oleg Butkovic, who have been with Plenkovic in the government since the beginning, for eight years, remain in the same ministerial positions.
Korzhinek remains Minister of Culture and Media, Medved Minister of Croatian Veterans and Butkovic Minister of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure.
Medved, Bozhinović, Butković, Bacić and Anšić also remain deputy prime ministers. Primorac also assumes the function of vice president. It is already known that a post of vice-president belongs to Josip Dabra of the DP, so there will be a total of seven vice-presidents of the government.
According to the mandate proposal, the newly created Ministry of Demography and Immigration will be headed by Ivan Shipiq, former member of the HDZ, the Minister of Agriculture will be Josip Dabro, Secretary General and President of DP Vukovar-Srijem, while the Ministry of Economy will be handled by Ante Shushnjar, a lawyer from Zagreb, member of the leadership of the DP and the Court of Honor and one of the founders of this party.
In the chapter on successful Croatia, macroeconomic stability, a competitive economy and a secure labor market are highlighted. The goal is for the average net salary to reach 1600 euros, to create 125 jobs and for the employment rate to reach 75 percent. The education system will be modernized and by 2030 every child should have a place in kindergarten.
The chapter on successful Croatia also states that six billion euros will be invested in railway infrastructure over the next ten years.
