The European Union's (EU) foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, has said that tomorrow (Monday) she will discuss with EU foreign ministers how to best respond to Russia's hybrid threats.
This announcement comes after the damage to an underwater cable in the Baltic Sea, which Kallas said is the latest incident affecting the critical infrastructure of EU member states, KosovaPress writes.
"Today's damage to an undersea cable in the Baltic Sea is the latest incident affecting critical infrastructure in EU member states. Tomorrow I will discuss with Foreign Ministers how to better deter and respond to hybrid threats amid Russia's intensified campaign," she wrote in X.

Otherwise, international media have reported that an underwater fiber optic cable between Latvia and Sweden was damaged this morning.
The damage to this cable marks another in a series of similar incidents involving critical infrastructure in the Baltic Sea that have occurred since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.Such incidents occurred in October 2024, when an underwater gas pipeline connecting Finland and Estonia was shut down after a Chinese cargo ship's anchor damaged it. Meanwhile, last month, two telecommunications cables connecting Sweden and Denmark were severed. On Wednesday, Finnish authorities announced that an underwater power cable connecting Finland and Estonia had also been damaged.
