The Mayor of Zveçan Municipality, Ilir Peci, in an interview for KosovaPress, said that he will not resign for now.
He says that he has not yet received any official request for resignation from the government or from the international community, so he says that it is too early to talk about such a thing.
According to him, the event of September 24 in Banjska in Zveçan was a terrorist attack organized by Serbia and the latter should be condemned by the International Community.
It was a terrorist attack organized by Serbia... It was a very difficult day for me as mayor, but also for all the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo. However, thanks to the police, everything ended well that day and now the situation is calmer and the situation has stabilized a little in the Municipality of Zveçan... Such a large organization was attacked by the police in its own country, definitely yes (Serbia should is condemned by the International Community)... At the moment no (I will not resign), but let's see. ... We still haven't received anything officially for resignation, neither from the government of the Republic of Kosovo nor from the international community. Until we receive something officially, it is too early to give an opinion about this," he said.
Peci, who has continued to perform the duties of the mayor for almost five months from an alternative office in the village of Kelmend, said that so far there have been no visits from the governors, although he admits that he communicates via email and phone, mainly with the Minister of Local Government. Elbert Krasniqi.
However, Peci, who comes from the ranks of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, announced that the PDK chairman, Memli Krasniqi, and other party members, from whom he also received advice and suggestions, have not missed visits.
He states that he is not sure if he will finish the full mandate of the president, since, as he said, everything in the north is related to the political circumstances.
Peci also talks about the increased interest of the Serbian citizens of Zveçan to be equipped with personal documents, who seek services at the improvised municipal facility in Kelmend.
Otherwise, while the mayor of North Mitrovica, Erden Atiq exercises his duties from the municipal facility in the north of Mitrovica and Lulzim Hetemi, who leads Leposaviq, is staying inside the municipality for more than four months, Ilir Peci together with the mayor of Zubin Potolu, Izmir Zeqiri , perform tasks from alternative premises.
