Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris conceded the presidential election in a phone call with Republican Donald Trump, according to a report today.
CNN, citing a senior aide, reported that Harris "called Trump to congratulate him on winning the 2024 presidential election."
The US network reports that Harris "discussed the importance of a peaceful transfer of power and being president for all Americans."
The call came hours before Harris is scheduled to deliver her speech to supporters after being handed a resounding electoral loss by Trump, her office announced.
Trump received the necessary 270 Electoral College votes to win re-election early Wednesday, and currently sits at 292 to Harris' 224.
"We have overcome obstacles that no one ever thought we could have. This will truly be America's golden age," Trump said during his victory speech in Florida.
Trump will be inaugurated for a second term in the White House in January 2025. Harris as vice president is scheduled to oversee the swearing-in ceremony at the Capitol. /AA
