The categorization of sports for 2025 announced last week by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports has sparked reactions and dissatisfaction among many federations, who believe that they have not been awarded many points even though they have had local and international activities.

The Basketball Federation, which is ranked in category B, says that the MCYS Commission has not recognized the international activities of the younger generations at all, even though they were quite successful.

The Secretary of the FBK, Elvira Dushku, informed KosovaPress that they have filed a complaint about this discrimination with the MCYS.

"We have an increase of 3.65 points in the categorization, which means that we have worked and improved in those points where the regulation required, while our expectations were to have an increase of up to 7 points, and precisely for this reason the international results of the new categories, which are not being recognized because the FIBA European Championships of the new categories are divided into divisions and in the regulation it is defined only as European Championships for youth, they did not give us points there... For this reason we will file a complaint, it is not that we have very high expectations that will be taken as a basis, but on the other hand it is a bit unfair because the activity was held", says Dushku.

Dushku announced that due to the lack of these points, the budget of this federation is damaged by around 300 thousand euros.

"I don't know how much the prize per point will be, but we are talking about 250 to 300 thousand, but it is still money that is very necessary to develop the activities of young people and representatives of Kosovo, and for this reason we will fight to get these points for successes in the new categories," emphasizes Dushku.

The Boxing Federation is also unhappy after being ranked in category C. The secretary of this federation, Latif Demolli, says that the MCYS has taken away 17 points from their categorization and they expect that after an appeal they will have them returned.

"We cannot be satisfied because after judo, boxing is the most successful sport in Kosovo in terms of medals. We are only missing the Olympic medal, while we have all the world, European, Mediterranean and Balkan medals, and unfortunately they have taken away 17 points from us as an Olympic sport... It affects a lot because one point last year was 3 thousand euros and it is an extremely large amount and it is a handicap for boxing when we expect to have as many international camps and competitions this year," Demolli declares.

The Karate Federation is also unhappy with the positioning in category B. Nazmi Gashi, secretary of this federation, says that the work and sweat of the athletes and coaches of this sport have been denied.

"We are not satisfied with this because we expect more. We are actually sanctioned on three points, we are sanctioned on the results... Both the athletes and the coaches have not been evaluated at all by this commission. We have filed complaints on time and we are hoping to find understanding and that our results will be evaluated as we have... We think that we are missing 19.5 points, which is a pretty big budget that we have missed," says Gashi.

Unlike the federations above, the largest in the country, the Kosovo Football Federation, will not complain to the MCYS even though it is ranked in category B.

In a response to KosovaPress, the president of this federation, Agim Ademi, said that they will not file a complaint because they believe that the evaluation was made by experts in this field within the Ministry of Sports.

The MCYS said they do not want to comment as the complaints of all federations will be reviewed in the coming days. /A. Bytyçi
