The names and registration numbers of 554 Greek officers from the Directorate for the Fight Against Organized Crime (DAOE) have been leaked online, local media reported on Thursday.

The DAOE, dubbed the "Greek FBI", was recently established in Greece to fight organized crime.

According to Greek daily Avgi, the names of DAOE officers serving in the capital Athens and the northern port city of Thessaloniki were leaked online.

The Athens Police Employees Union denounced the leak and criticized the Ministry of Citizen Protection for its "silence" on the issue.

According to media reports, the ministry has launched an investigation into the incident. /AA
