The Kosovo Police has announced a case of rape that allegedly happened at midnight on Sunday in Pristina. The 24-hour police report says that this institution in cooperation with "the competent prosecutor's office is conducting intensive investigations".

The police announced that by the decision of the prosecutor "the female Kosovar victim has been sent for a medical examination".

This has been confirmed for KosovaPress by Ditor Haliti from the Institute of Forensic Medicine.

KosovaPress has contacted the Basic Prosecutor's Office in Pristina, but the same has not agreed to talk about this issue on the grounds that the victim is a minor.

Luljeta Demolli, executive director at the Kosovar Center for Gender Studies, tells KosovaPress that the treatment and prevention of such cases is an emergency.

"We don't see efficiency from our security institutions and we see complete insecurity for young girls. Rape occurs between the ages of 11 and 14, mostly in Kosovo. And we have warned and we urgently need to deal with the cases, we have asked to build a space where these girls can go, we have continuously requested that this does not happen to the girls in the city", she says.

In relation to this case, the Kosovo Women's Network has also reacted, saying that this case "must be an urgent call for action by all institutions and our society".

"KrGK calls on the justice bodies to act decisively and urgently, ensuring detailed and quick investigations for the complete clarification of the case and for the maximum punishment of the perpetrators, in accordance with the law. This case should serve as a clear warning to everyone, that violence against minors will not be tolerated in any way, like any other form of violence", says the reaction.

Another case of rape on Monday was reported in Peja where, according to the Kosovo Police, a suspect was taken into custody./KosovaPress
