The situation created in the capital regarding waste management and payments is being considered a political struggle.

While the Municipality of Pristina insists that they are within their rights to suspend the new waste regulation, the company "Pastrimi" says that they will continue to implement this same regulation.

The Director of Public Services in the municipality of Pristina, Bekim Brestovci, believes that their decision to suspend the waste management regulation is legal.

Brestovci emphasizes that depending on the decision of the Constitutional Court, the issue of collection of waste invoices will also be regulated.

The waste management company in the capital, "Pastrimi", states that the regulation in question can only be repealed by the Pristina Municipal Assembly or the courts.

The CEO of "Pastrimi", Petrit Reçica, says that until there is a court decision on this issue, they will implement the waste regulation.

Furthermore, Reçica insists that the capital's residents should pay their waste bills to the company "Pastrimi".

Besart Zhuja, a researcher at the GAP Institute, says that the waste management situation in the capital is happening due to the political infighting between the municipality of Pristina and the company "Pastrimi".

Zhuja emphasizes that this situation is also characterized by a lack of transparency on both sides.

On Monday of this week, the Municipality of Pristina declared a state of emergency for waste management. They blamed the situation on the opposition parties, saying that the amendment to the waste regulation initiated by the PDK and the Vetevendosje Movement in the Municipal Assembly has made it impossible for the private sector to engage in waste management.

On the other hand, ecologists have considered it unnecessary to declare a state of emergency over the waste situation.
