It was the second most expensive signing in Barcelona history, surpassed only by Dembélé. He played for Bayern on loan from the Blaugrana and scored twice in a humiliating 8-2 win.

Philippe Coutinho is ending his last days as a footballer at Vasco da Gama, the team in which he started to make a name for himself many years ago and which welcomed him with enthusiasm despite the player already in his footballing twilight. Inter knew how to spot his talent and signed him in 2008, keeping him on loan until 2010 when he made the move to European football. As he was very young, he did not have many opportunities in the Italian team and was loaned to Espanyol, where he did not have a bad year.

Inter could not stand the Brazilian and sold him to Liverpool for 13 million euros. In the 'red' team he used all his footballing talent and turned him into a star, to the point that Barcelona lost their minds to incorporate him in the winter market of 2018 to soften the loss of Neymar to PSG. "Blaugranes" spent 135 million euros for Coutinho, which became the second most expensive signing in the history of Barca, surpassed only by Ousmane Dembélé, who had arrived in the summer, KosovaPress reports.

Despite a promising half a year, the Brazilian did not fit in with a Barca side who thought they had found their new Iniesta. Barcelona first loaned him to Bayern Munich in August 2019 and he scored twice and provided an assist in the humiliating 2-8 defeat in Lisbon. He returned to end up on loan again to Aston Villa, who paid 2022 pounds for him in July 20. He also could not recover his best level and with Unai Emery as coach he stopped playing. Aston Villa sent him on loan to Al-Duhail SC in the summer of 2023 and later sold him to Vasco da Gama.

Coutinho returned home to end his playing career in his country. At 32 years old, he is under contract until June 30, 2025. His performance has improved, but he is light years away from what he once was. As a curious fact, you only have to look at its decline in market value. When he was at Barcelona in 2018, he was valued at 150 million euros (like Lamine Yamal now). Today its value is 7.5 million.
