From football to tennis, Gjakova with new sports infrastructure
One of the stadiums that is expected to be ready for international level matches and according to UEFA standards, is the stadium of the city of Gjakova. Works on this stadium are being carried out with intense dynamics and as a result it can be ready in the first half of 2025. This is what Labinot Efendija from the Sports Directorate in Gjakovë has announced, who told KosovaPress that the capacity of the stadium will have 13 seats. "As is known, the basic element for the activity of a sports club is the sports infrastructure that the municipality of Gjakova has continuously built or renovated sports facilities. So is the city stadium, which is a fairly large project that is being developed in our municipality. The works are being developed with high intensity. The stadium is being built with UEFA dimensions, which also affects the licensing and categorization that UEFA defines. The stadium will have a capacity of 800 seats and it will be a very attractive stadium for our city and all of Kosovo", says Efendija first. But not only the football stadium. The sport of tennis is also being developed in Gjakova, and to support it, four courts are already being built for this sport. "In Gjakovë there are three sports tennis clubs which lacked a lot of sports infrastructure. The municipality of Gjakova is now at the end of this project, which is a project with ITF (International Tennis Federation) standards that meets all the criteria for holding international tournaments because all the supporting infrastructure is there and there are four tennis courts", emphasizes Efendija. On the side they don't even have sports like basketball, handball and volleyball. There are new investments in the "Shani Nushi" sports gym. Efendija has also said that during this year, many sports activities have been held in Gjakovë, such as boxing tournaments, competitions for jumping from Ura e Fshejte as the most extreme sport in Kosovo, and many other activities.
