American professor and expert in political science, Alon Ben-Meir, says that the European Union is dissatisfied with the way Prime Minister Albin Kurti is handling the dialogue. He declares that the attitude of the chief executive "has made zero progress and has antagonized the EU". According to him, after the election process, Kosovo should rethink its position in this process. The New York University professor, in the interview for KosovaPress, also talks about the Association, for which, among other things, he considers that Kosovo has an obligation to start with the steps towards its establishment.
The expert on Western Balkan issues, Alon Ben-Meir, says that the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia has not produced results, however, he considers it necessary to return to the negotiating table.
"Even though the dialogue has not produced any results, not having a dialogue is definitely a dead end. So, despite the dialogue, specifically after the February elections, it can move forward because I think that Kurti has learned a number of lessons over the last four years, that this that kind of attitude has made zero progress and has antagonized the EU instead of getting closer to the EU. I mean, imagine that the EU imposed sanctions on Kosovo, not on Serbia, because the EU is very unhappy with Kurti and the way he is handling these negotiations, this dialogue. So the dialogue should resume, but before it resumes, the government itself, Kosovo itself after the elections, because I don't expect anything to happen between now and February , it needs to rethink its position if it wants to move faster on integration with the EU, it needs to make a move to demonstrate that it is willing to negotiate specifically in one area that it needs to do one way or the other But of course this in itself will not be enough for Kosovo to become a member of the EU, because there are other issues that Kosovo must fulfill", declares Ben-Meir.
Ben-Meir, who is a professor at the Center for Global Affairs at New York University, emphasizes that Kurti should also work with the five non-recognizing bloc countries to be part of the European Union.
In the interview for KosovaPress, the American professor, while talking about the establishment of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority, says that Serbia should stop the campaign against the recognition of Kosovo.
Ben-Meir, who has spent part of his career dealing with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, considers that after the February 9 elections, Kosovo should resolve the issue of the Association.
In the Country Report of the European Commission, Kosovo is asked to start the procedures for the establishment of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority.
The expert on the issues of the Western Balkans says that this issue must be resolved, regardless of what has happened in the relations between the two countries.
