The chairman of the Democratic Party in Albania, Lulzim Basha, has requested an international investigation into the irregularities found in the elections in Serbia. In his speech at the KIE Parliamentary Assembly, Basha emphasized that vote buying was some of the serious irregularities that occurred during these elections, while Albanians were removed from the voter lists.
"Mass violations and irregularities in the elections in Serbia, as indicated by the preliminary OSCE report, were dominated by the decisive involvement of the president, which, together with the systemic advantages of the ruling party, created unequal conditions. Unfair competition, media bias and vote-buying were some of the serious irregularities that occurred during these elections, as stated by the mission of election observers. Citizens from other states, such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, were transported to vote in Belgrade, while Albanians were removed from the voter rolls. Serbia continues its ethnic discrimination and silent cleansing by preventing about 8 thousand Albanians in Preševo, Medvegja and Bujanoc from receiving documents, depriving them of the right to vote and access to public services through the passivation of addresses. A full international investigation into Serbian election irregularities and the protection of electoral standards, also in other countries in the Western Balkans facing electoral issues and the lack of rule of law, are imperative. Without democratic elections and the rule of law, there is no security, no stability, no well-being, no European dream for the peoples of the Western Balkans".
According to Basha, these irregularities, made public by the observers of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the European Parliament and the OSCE-ODIHR, were followed by a campaign of attacks by politicians of the ruling party and the media controlled by them.
"The brutal violence against the leader of an opposition party, Nikola Sandulović, simply because he bowed before the grave of a 7-year-old girl killed near the Jashari family in Prekaz, should ring everywhere as evidence of a campaign of intimidation and punishment, this from a country seeking EU membership".
Basha emphasized that stability in the Western Balkans is threatened by populist autocrats, while he accused Serbia of sabotaging security in the Balkans with strategies from Moscow.
"In the Western Balkans, autocrats have often been tolerated in the manipulation of elections, in the vague and false hope of maintaining stability in exchange for democracy and the rule of law. We now face the consequences of this failed approach: the first victims are democracy and the rule of law. In the end, stability is threatened by populist autocrats, seeking refuge from their failures in ultra-nationalist adventures. The terrorist attack in Banjska has not yet been solved, while Serbia refuses to execute the Interpol order for Milan Radoicic, who has taken responsibility for the attack. If Serbia has nothing to hide, why is it protecting it? Serbia continues to sabotage and threaten security and stability in Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, with a Moscow-backed strategy aimed at fueling conflict in the Western Balkans to divert attention from its illegal war of occupation. against Ukraine", declared Basha. /a2news
