In the absence of trained staff for the provision of some specific health services, the Abdominal Surgery Clinic at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (QKUK), during the past year, has referred three patients for treatment abroad.
Regarding the referrals of patients outside Kosovo, the director of this clinic, Enver Fekaj, emphasizes that they are not exclusively related to surgical treatment, but to additional procedures, which, as he says, are not performed by abdominal surgeons.
Fekaj, among other things, tells KosovaPress that during the past year, about 2 surgical interventions were performed.
He also talks about performing operations that are not performed in private hospitals in Kosovo and that cost thousands of euros abroad."Approximately during the year 2024, a total of 2 surgical interventions were performed. Minimally invasive or endoscopic interventions were also performed. Approximately 300 gastroscopies were performed. Approximately 200 colonoscopies were performed. Approximately over 100 visits were made to the specialist clinic and somewhere over 5 for the visit to the emergency center from the Abdominal Surgery Clinic", says Fekaj.
