Albania has been affected by bad weather in the last few hours, while classes have been temporarily suspended in dozens of schools, reports Anadolu.

Snowfall and rain have covered several areas of Albania, meanwhile, according to the authorities, some road axes have been blocked by the snow.

In a press release, the Ministry of Education and Sports of Albania has confirmed that classes have been suspended in 77 schools in some areas due to severe weather conditions.

"The Ministry of Education and Sports informs that, due to the situation aggravated by the bad weather, the recommendations of the authorities responsible for civil emergencies, as well as the reports from the local education offices, on January 13, 2025, the teaching process is temporarily suspended in 77 central schools and their affiliated schools, where heavy snowfall and difficult weather conditions make it impossible to carry out the learning process", it is said in notice.

According to the ministry, the situation in some schools in the areas of Bulqiza, Mati, Dibra, Kruja, Has, Kukës, Mirdita, Kurbin, Puka and other areas is problematic.

The announcement states that the teaching process in these schools is suspended until further notice and will be replaced in the following weeks.

"This decision was taken to ensure the safety of students, teachers and educational staff in the areas most affected by bad weather," the announcement states.

According to information from the Institute of Geosciences of Albania (IGJEO) and the Military Meteorological Service of Albania (SHMU), snowfall is expected to continue today in the northern, northeastern, central and southeastern areas of the country./AA/
