The European Council approved today the conclusions on the enlargement of the EU covering the six countries of the Western Balkans. In the conclusions for Albania, the Council welcomes the opening of the "Basic" group-chapters at the second intergovernmental conference on October 15, 2024 and the opening of the "Foreign Relations" group-chapters.
The President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, has welcomed the opening of negotiations for the sixth group.
"We welcome the opening of negotiations for the sixth group. Today's decision affirms Albania's solid progress towards EU membership in the near future", wrote Begaj in X.
The Council appreciates the government's objective to continue Albania's progress on its path to the EU, urges all political forces to pursue their ambitious plan for closing membership negotiations, and expects to be able to open further negotiating groups as soon as as soon as possible, after meeting the conditions.We welcome the opening of negotiations on Cluster Six.
