About nine thousand citizens from the Pristina region have been vaccinated against the seasonal flu, while another three thousand doses are still available. The Central Family Medicine Center (KKMF) calls on the most vulnerable groups to be vaccinated by the end of December.

The most vulnerable groups are the elderly, people with chronic diseases and health workers who are in direct contact with patients.

According to health workers, the increase in cases of seasonal flu in Kosovo is a common concern for this time of year - in low temperatures and when activities are limited to closed premises.

These favor the spread of viruses.

The doctor at the KKMF, Rushit Ismajli, tells KosovaPress that recently the number of patients seeking medical services has increased.

But he shows that this flu is overcome "on its own or with a simple treatment".

"Recently, we have had an increased number of patients seeking help in our health institution and because of the season, but also for other reasons, and there has been a load on health services. If we talk about the damages, they are usually not too big caused by the seasonal flu, because the symptoms are simple - fever, cough, muscle pain, throat - it often goes away by itself or with a simple treatment, there is no need to worry a lot, except in very rare cases when they have a very high temperature, have difficulty breathing, have chest pain", says Ismajli.

Ismajli adds that citizens should not take antibiotics without a prescription from health professionals.

This is because of the damage and side effects that can be caused.

"There are also specific measures, vaccination which in the municipality of Pristina is going quite well, so far we have about nine thousand vaccines in Pristina and the surrounding area, still reserve [3 thousand] 12 thousand vaccines [we had in total]. I invite the citizens of Pristina to come visit our center and get vaccinated against the seasonal flu, they have until the end of December to get this vaccine and be vaccinated, health workers are in this category, including other groups, children , pregnant women, the elderly, especially those who have concomitant diseases such as tension, diabetes, chronic lung disease, it is highly recommended that they receive the vaccine, but all other citizens should also be vaccinated against the seasonal flu. "Citizens should not take antibiotics themselves, they should not go to the pharmacy to take antibiotics without a doctor's prescription," he added.

Vaccination against seasonal flu is a key measure to prevent the complications that this flu can cause, especially in vulnerable groups.
