A major storm dumped snow and rain in California, leading to mudslides and flooding on several highways, while storm warnings were issued for other parts of the United States on Saturday.

Another storm is expected to arrive during the week of the Thanksgiving holiday, according to Torry Dooley, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

The western US lowlands to the part known as the Great Lakes, near Canada, will be covered by rain and snow on Monday, while the US east coast is expected to have worse weather during the holiday, Thursday.

Areas from Boston to New York may experience rain and strong winds. Snow may fall in northern parts of New Hampshire and Maine.

The storm hit the Northwestern United States earlier this week, killing two people and leaving thousands without power, mostly in the Seattle area, before strong winds moved toward Northern California.

The US West Coast was hit Tuesday by a "bomb cyclone," which occurs when a cyclone rapidly intensifies. Strong winds toppled trees, damaged cars and houses.

Rain in Santa Rosa, California, continued for three straight days, according to the National Weather Service.

Meanwhile on the American east coast, where some areas in New York and New Jersey were engulfed by fires, the rainstorm was welcomed by residents. Parts of Pennsylvania were whitewashed by heavy snowfall.

In parts of West Virginia, snowfall reached up to 61 feet and was accompanied by strong winds./Voa
