The Ministry of Health has announced that every year on November 14, the world marks "World Diabetes Day", which aims to raise awareness of this disease and promote the importance of equal access to health care.

This year, this day is marked with the motto "Equal access to health care" and emphasizes the importance of ensuring equal opportunities for all individuals to access health care.

"Diabetes mellitus is a group of diseases that affect the way the body uses blood sugar (glucose), a major source of energy for the body and brain. "Regardless of the type of diabetes, this disease can lead to high blood sugar levels, causing serious health problems," the announcement states.

According to statistics published by the World Health Organization (WHO), about 422 million people worldwide suffer from diabetes, and most of them live in low- and middle-income countries.

"Every year, 1.5 million deaths are directly related to this disease. Moreover, the prevalence and number of diabetes cases have shown a continuous increase during the last decades, while, according to the data from the "Analysis of the health status of the population in Kosovo 2022", published by the National Institute of Public Health of In Kosovo, in the 2021 morbidity report, the number of people identified with diabetes is 9,138 to 9,757, of which 7,302 are affected by independent diabetes from insulin (type 2 diabetes) and 2,455 from insulin-dependent diabetes (type 1 diabetes). "Also, 4,148 people are affected by insulin-dependent diabetes and 5,302 by insulin-independent diabetes," the announcement states.

Based on the latest data, according to the Ministry of Health, it is necessary to raise awareness, improve access to diabetes treatment and control, as well as to strengthen preventive measures, especially in countries with limited resources. So, let's contribute to all to fight diabetes and ensure a healthier future.
