Almost all states have closed their polling stations, including western states, the BBC reports.

Polls are open only in Hawaii and Alaska.

Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are running for president of the USA.

More than half of the states have already shown the results.

The results so far are in line with what was expected: Trump has maintained his grip on traditionally Republican states, while Harris has taken Democratic strongholds.

Among the states where voting has just stopped is California, a traditional Democratic stronghold expected to give Kamala Harris a whopping 54 extra electoral college votes.

To win, presidential candidates need 270 of the Electoral College – or electoral votes.
