Fadil Fazliu from Prishtina has decided to select a family doctor for him and other members of the household.

He has followed all the procedures for this through the e-Kosova platform, completing personal data based on marital status.

However, he says he has not yet received any services from him.

The selection of the family doctor within the residential area is a project in accordance with the Action Plan for determining the criteria for the register of residents in Primary Health Care.

This is a project of the Ministry of Health, which from September 25 has been extended to the entire territory of Kosovo, after a test period in only four municipalities of the country.

The selection process is expected to be completed by the end of next year.

However, Fadil Fazliu is among the few citizens who are well-informed that through the e-Kosova platform they can choose their family doctor within the residential area.

Fetije Blaku, a resident of Pristina, says that she is not informed about this.

Hava Lahu, also a resident of Pristina, is in the same situation.

On the other hand, Rexhep Fazliu has information about the possibility of determining the family doctor, but he has not yet applied on the platform.

The Ministry of Health says that Kosovo has the medical capacity to realize this project.

Deputy Education Minister Berisha tells KosovaPress that the project for the selection of a family medicine specialist facilitates the work of health professionals and increases the well-being of patients.

Berisha says that the project for the selection of a family doctor also aims to provide regular services to patients.

The selection of the family doctor has been welcomed by the Kosovo Patients' Rights Association.

The project, according to the chairman Besim Kodra, is delayed but offers opportunities for better quality treatment for Kosovar patients.

But from the Association of Doctors of Kosovo, they consider that this project cannot be implemented until there is a lack of health insurance.

According to the mayor Pleurat Sejdiu, Kosovo has not created the prerequisites for the functionalization of this project.

Sejdiu expresses skepticism about the progress of the project of choosing a family doctor also because of the number of family medicine specialists who are employed in the primary health system.

In Kosovo with about 1.6 million inhabitants, the primary health system is extended to all municipalities.
