The Embassy of Italy in Pristina has joined the literary debate on women in the works of the well-known writer Elena Ferrante, within the annual activities organized on the occasion of the Week of the Italian language in the world.

The debate "Le Donne di Elena Ferrante" focused on the main female characters of the novels of Elena Ferrante, one of the most influential voices in modern literature, ranked by Time magazine among the 100 most influential people in the world.

Speaking about the importance of the week of the Italian language in the world, as a means of cultural expression, the ambassador of Italy in Pristina Antonello de Riu said that every year discussion topics are determined on well-known personalities in order to preserve and promote Italian cultural values.

"It is very important to promote reading as a vital element for personal and collective development, emphasizing the transformative power of books in enriching our language and relationships. At the center of the planned events is Italian literature, explored through different dimensions that throughout the week we will have cinematographic activities in the educational and social aspects. Today's discussion focuses on the article of Elena Ferrante, one of the most influential voices in contemporary Italian literature, and Time magazine has listed her among the 100 most influential people in the world and called her book "L'Amica Geniale" in 2011 as one of the best books of the 21st century", said the Italian ambassador.

The writer Elena Ferrante dives deep into the subject of women in her works and through emotional stories offers key insights into the problems they face in society. Elena Ferrante is her pseudonym and her full identity has not yet been revealed.

Aida Baro from Botime Pegi, spoke about the life and work of the famous Italian writer, who has resonated in every corner of the world, as she deals with the topic of women and the problems they face in society.

"Exactly the fact that Ferrante is not yet known with her true face is part of marketing or not, I think that good literature regardless of whether we know the writer or not, what conveys us and makes us for ourselves is the work. It doesn't matter if the writer is a man or a woman. Ferrante has been given various epithets, but in the end the work remains. The work itself has great value and is one of those works that enter universal literature - it speaks to every country, continent, whatever age. This book has been embraced both in America, as in Albania, as in Italy, because the state of the races that Ferrante talks about does not seem to have changed", said Baro.

Edi Gusia from the Kosovo Agency for Gender Equality in the Office of the Prime Minister has spoken about the similarity of the characters that Ferrante treats in her works with the lives of women in other societies as well.

"Elena Ferrante has amazed me as well as all the women and men who have read it, as there were similar motives and archetypes to what the Albanian woman experiences, although if I take her in age as Ferrante describes her characters... If you see the journey of a Kosovar woman in society, we find so much Elena that it seems that she is experiencing your life, your mother, your friends or the history of women who have lived or continue to live in Kosovo", she said.

Otherwise, the first book "L'Amore Molesto" by Elena Ferrante was turned into a movie by Mario Martone (1995).
