The North Atlantic Alliance today condemned Russia's violation of Romanian airspace.

NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana stated in X that these acts are irresponsible and potentially dangerous, indicating that they had "no information indicating a deliberate attack by Russia against allies".

It comes after the Romanian Foreign Ministry protested the violations of its airspace earlier on Sunday, after also announcing consultations with NATO on the nature of the violation.

Romania had sent two warplanes that searched the area around the village of Periprava on the border with Ukraine, where the alleged breach took place and a drone was shot down.

Latvia also reported today that a Russian drone was shot down on its territory yesterday. / ANSA
