The best European wheelchair basketball teams gather in Sofia
The best European wheelchair basketball teams have gathered in Sofia for the Basketball Inclusive Games (BIG).
The games take place from September 7 to 11 and are organized by the Levski basketball club for people with disabilities. The tournament itself will be held from September 8 to 10 in Sofia's Triaditsa Sports Hall and CSKA Sofia Basketball Hall.
The champions will be determined between the teams of Serbia, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Croatia, Turkey, Romania and Poland.
Within the framework of BIG, an international training seminar will be held with participants from more than 10 European countries. In addition, an expert panel will be organized for educators, psychologists, social workers, rehabilitation therapists and sports managers to identify strengths and personal development.
The BIG festival will open at 19:00 on Sunday in Sofia. Bulgarian Sports Minister Georgi Glushkov, FIBA Vice President for Europe Karmen Tokala and Petr Tucek, Secretary General of the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation, will give special speeches.
BIG is the culmination of a 12-month international partnership initiative between the Levski Disabled Basketball Club and leading organizations from 12 European countries, including the Croatian Wheelchair Basketball Federation, the Romanian Federation, the Slovenian Paralympic Committee and others. According to the Bulgarian Basketball Federation, this international partnership is dedicated to inclusiveness for people with disabilities in basketball and aims to empower participants, creating a lasting positive impact on the European sports community.
The Sofia Games are open to the general public, who are invited to support the athletes and become part of a unique sporting event that demonstrates exceptional sportsmanship and spirit. /BTA
