"Belgrade plans relocation of Kosovo Serbs"
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, today met with Sonja Biserko, the founder and president of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Serbia.
The meeting was also attended by Nenad Canak, Serbian politician, co-founder and former leader of the center-left party, League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina, and Mark Baskin, professor and director of the Center for Humanitarian Dialogue.
During the meeting, Biserko, Çanak and Baskin informed Prime Minister Kurti that there is talk that official Belgrade is planning the relocation of Kosovo Serbs, especially those from the north to Sanxhak, where, as is being said, houses and apartments are being built for them. They appealed to Prime Minister Kurti to try to prevent such a scenario.
Prime Minister Kurti reiterated the importance of democracy, the rule of law and equality for all citizens of Kosovo and especially the involvement of the Serbian community in all aspects of the economy and society.
He informed his guests about the rights enjoyed by non-majority communities in Kosovo, as well as the Government's efforts to increase opportunities for these communities in many areas such as education, employment and their security.
The meeting also discussed the situation and developments in the Western Balkans, the will and chances for integration in the EU and NATO, and in particular the relations between Kosovo and Serbia, history and current affairs, as well as perspectives for the future.
