A cup of coffee in the bar, so loved by Italians, can cost up to two euros in a short time.

Climate change is among the main causes of this change.

"In the last three years, the price of a cup of coffee has increased by 15 percent, today, on average, a coffee in a bar costs 1,50 euros and it is estimated that it may reach two euros in the coming months due to the price of the raw material , green coffee, which is affected by high price volatility", emphasized Cristina Scocchia, CEO of "illycaffè".

"Today, green coffee costs 245 cents, i.e. 66 percent more than last year, more than double compared to 3 years ago. There are many causes, the first of course being climate change which could halve cultivated land by 2050," explained Scocchia.

Just think what has been happening in recent months: we go from torrential rains in Brazil to drought in Vietnam. In the short and medium term the supply chain is also under pressure due to the problem related to the Suez Canal, which increased transport costs.

"We do not intend to increase the price of our products for our customers, but apparently we will have to review this decision if the upward trend continues", she adds. /ATSH-ANSA/
