The World Day in Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition is observed every August 23, and aims to keep the slave trade and its tragedy in the memory of all people.

Slavery is considered a historical topic. "The longing man", although it is said about this now: we had it once, the reality is different. On all continents there are forms of modern slavery.

According to the estimation of human rights defenders, it is thought that about 600.000 Africans work as slaves in the homes of families with Arab orgy. Even in China, cases of modern slavery are regularly discovered. In July a quarry manager was sentenced to death. He had beaten a mentally disabled worker to death. This case became known even outside of China. From this it was discovered that mainly in quarries, thousands of men work in miserable conditions, but also many children, who were previously registered as missing.

Even in South America the chapter of slavery, which has long been considered closed, is still open. Not even two months have passed since the police, during a major action, freed 1.100 workers in a sugar beet plantation. The owner of the farm, where biofuel was extracted from sugar beets, had used a method common to Brazil. He had sold booty, work equipment, medicine and food to people without income at high prices until they were no longer able to pay. From this moment on, forced labor begins for them. /KosovaPress/
