Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said Wednesday "we continue to say absolutely not to travel to southern Lebanon and to exercise maximum caution" in an interview with Mediaset's Canale 5 Morning News program.

It is better that those who can return," he added.

"The Italians in Lebanon are approximately 4000.

"Most of them, however, have dual citizenship and are residents.

"Some 300-350 are there for work or other reasons.

"Some have returned on commercial flights, listening to our appeal - about 10 people," he continued.

"However, our embassy in Beirut and the crisis unit of our foreign ministry are working around the clock to provide all the necessary information to our compatriots who need to know how to try to return," he concluded./ANSA
