Desislava Angelova placed sixth in the sculls event at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The 26-year-old Bulgarian, who made her Olympic debut, covered the 2000m distance in the rowing canal in Verre-sur-Marne in 7:33.19 minutes.

Angelova started well and moved fourth in the first 300-400 meters, then gradually lost speed and finished last in Final A.

She is the first Bulgarian in the Olympic women's rowing final in 16 years after world record holder Rumiana Nejkova, who triumphed in the same discipline at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The gold medal went to Karolien Florijn (Netherlands), who finished the race in 7:17.28 minutes.

Bulgaria's other Olympic rower, Christian Vasilev, placed 14th in the men's floor after finishing second in the C final earlier on Saturday. /BTA
