For almost a year, most of the businesses in the area where the underpass will be built in the Municipality of Lipjan have not worked and have already gone bankrupt. Not only have they gone bankrupt, but the municipality has also considered their expropriation.

According to the owners of these businesses, the only reason the municipality wants to expropriate these properties is for personal interests, as this part will become the new part of the city.

The reason given by the municipality was initially that these objects obstruct the underground parking, after the completion of the parking lot for greenery, and then to build social housing.

The owner of a cafe in Lipjan, Xhevdet Sadiku, told KosovaPress that this project happened without the agreement of the owners of this facility. According to him, the reason why the municipality left space for parking and did not bring it closer to the cafe-bar facility, is to demolish it and build apartments.

"The project that started the parking lot and the underpass from the municipality that they are doing, was done in one phase without our agreement with the owners of this object. Here we are dealing with people who are looking for personal interests to destroy the object, that it is in the center and opens onto the square, it is in a very good position.... It was made into a social housing, because this apartment is not and I don't see it as reasonable... Could the parking lot be made up to our facility, no they left me a dry space on the ground, but tomorrow, when it collapsed, I built it for myself, took the apartments for myself.... We have lost a lot, we have lost a total. The work has dropped from 100 percent to 98 percent," said Sadiku.

The other owner of this cafe, Fitim Krasniqi, has added that since October 8 of last year, the bar is not functional. He has shown that the bar has been completely destroyed, the inventories have been damaged and it is not generating any income, as well as being left without workers.

He says that he supported his family from the income from working in this bar.

Pharmacist Dëfrim Zejnullahu tells KosovaPress that in addition to the pharmacy, he also has two premises for rent, from which the tenants have left due to lack of profit. According to him, the reasons for the demolition are baseless, so they demand compensation for the rents and the work they have lost for a year.

In addition to the premises, the municipality has also decided to demolish an apartment where a single citizen lives with her grandson, Rahmete Emini.

Emini stated that the municipality said to let the apartment and offer her 35 euros, but according to her, she cannot even buy a garage with this amount of money. She says that her late husband left her the apartment, so she says that "only the dead can get her out of there".

The spokeswoman of the Municipality of Lipjan, Hyra Bytyçi, in a written response to KosovaPress, says that the reason for the destruction is the outdated facilities that do not stand the test of time. According to her, the mayor Imri Ahmeti has proposed to the municipal assembly that businesses be exempted from rent taxes and they have been exempted for 2024.

In the response of the Municipality of Lipjan, it was mentioned that these buildings are expected to be demolished during these days.
